  • Description

The Sumo Kumo is the big sibling of the Kumamoto Oyster and is twice the size and twice as wise. With age comes beauty and refined flavor. The Sumo is perfect for the Kumo connoisseur, and also holds its own on the grill. Try this rare "unicorn" of an oyster before they're gone!
Our Kumamotos or "Kumos" are grown from mid-century, heirloom seeds rarely found outside Chapman's Cove, WA. Their heritage dates to the original Japanese imports from the late 1940s. Our Kumo is a gently, fulfilling oyster with remarkably consistent growth patterns. Their salted honeydew meat fills up the deep cupped shells, brimming with sweet liquor.

    Quantity: 30 count
Flavor Profile: Honey melon and sweet lime notes. Juicy, mouthwatering oyster with a little brine and a pleasant sweetness.
    Size: Approximately 2.5 - 3 inch shell
    Age: Approximately 4 years matured

    Sumo Kumo

They were exceptional this year. Very briny and sweet. Didn’t need any additions.

"I Weep for You," the Walrus Said

Even the Walrus knew that the largest were the tastiest! He sorted those out for himself first keeping them from the Carpenter. Don't bother to put lemon juice on these wonderful oysters, and stop think of them as fodder for grilling. These deserve to be swallowed unadorned, in all their beautiful fresh sea briny glory.

    Divine

We popped these beautiful oysters right our of the shell and devoured them with mignonette sauce. They were heavenly and worth every penny!

    Sumo Kumo Grilled

I placed these directly on the grill - once they popped open - I took the top shell off. I used the herb butter and filled each shell - letting the flames dance around them. They were INCREDIBLE!!!! So easy and delish

    So good

My husband is from Hawaii so he loves his oyster and being in NM we obviously don’t have that option lol So every birthday I grab these oysters and they never disappoint. Always on time and always tasty! I highly recommend. Can’t wait to visit in person.

    Super Fresh

Second time have placed an order. Process was simple. Communication was great. Items arrived on time - very good packaging. These oysters are expensive, but worth it!! Very fresh. Very tasty. Our favorite so far.

My favorite oyster by far. Wish they weren't so damn expensive or I would order often.

    Raw oysters

My guess is that everyone has the same concern: Freshness & quality. Based on my first order... damn... these are really good. Ingenious and high-quality packaging. Great oysters. It had been so long that I'd slurped down raw oysters. Back in a happy place. And will reorder again.
