  • Description

The only oyster truly native to the West coast, these little gems are small in stature but huge in flavor.

Originally called the “Native Western” oyster, they were renamed in 1889 shortly after Washington received statehood. In a competition over the location of the state capital, those in favor of Olympia held a series of public meetings to persuade voters. At the culmination of these meetings, an oyster dinner was served. The oysters were so appealing that Olympia won the bid and from then on, they were known as Olympia oysters.

The beginner half-shell eater might choose the little “Oly” as an introduction before progressing to larger varieties. But after developing a more sophisticated palate, they always humbly return to their beloved first slurp—the mighty Olympia oyster.

    Quantity: 30 count
Flavor Profile: rich copper and mushrooms notes, with a celery salt brine and very lengthy finish on the palate
    Size: Approximately 1 - 1.5 inch shell

    Osyters

We order oysters and clams quite a few times through out the year. We live in Eastern Washington and they ship them. Always fresh and great. Highly recommend.

Hi, I ordered the Olympia oysters and thought I had got the flash sale of 15 more.

We steamed them in beer and 14 of the oysters our of 30 would not open. I don't feel it was worth the price. I have gotten seafood for years at Taylor's. I was very disappointed with this order.

    Oysters Delivered to Portland, OR

I ordered a dozen Oysters as a special surprise for my wife on New Years Eve. As a long time fan of Taylor Shellfish, having lived in Seattle for years. I was honestly shocked at the poor quality of of the product as shipped. At least 5 oysters were dead and 5 were impossible to shuck despite our best efforts. Would not recommend.

    Olympia Oysters

Flavor was good and packaging was great. The oysters were beyond small, hard to shuck even as a seasoned shucker. There were about 12% duds. The truth is that the quality and taste get a A+. Just after eating, the bigger cousins, I am confident that Olympias are not for me and a waste of resources and effort. I grew up on Olympia's when I was much younger and I know they had to be reintroduced. Good thing we had other nice things for our pre New Year’s party. I want to make clear it is not a Taylor thing but an oyster type thing.

    oysters

The Olympias were outstanding. Only issue was they were a challenge to open being so small. Excellent oyster.

    Olympia oysters

Our first time with these, our favorites are Kumamoto and Shigoku - we did really like the Olympia taste, but they were hard to shuck and maybe a little TOO small, even for me! Out of the 45, 2 were not good, and 5 or 6 were SO flat there was hardly any oyster there. We appreciated the sale but not sure we’ll do that again!

    Tiny and tough to shuck

Delicious but hard to justify the price for the amount of protein.

    Unique and delicious

These may be small in size but they're huge in flavor, with a unique taste profile. Grassy/mild cucumber taste with earthy and metallic hints. Less metallic than Belons, sweeter than Kumamotos, these have to be tried by everyone at least once. They were shipped promptly to the East Coast and arrived in very fresh, excellent condition.

    Olympia

Such a precious oyster. Unique, tasty, delicious, native. Taylor’s always, always, always sells the highest quality of oysters. Get these while you can.
